Finally, Alison brings all of her teaching skills together to achieve a wonderful landscape, ‘Penylan Lane’, incorporating a variety of stitch techniques, silk painting, and developing a palette of thread colors for highlights and shadows.

A wonderful workshop for those who want to learn how to paint with thread and stitches!

Alison Holt is a UK contemporary textile artist with a Fine Art Embroidery BA Hons degree from Goldsmiths College, London, specialising in freehand machine embroidery.

Using a basic Bernina sewing machine and just 2 stitches — straight stitch and zig-zag, Alison makes embroidered pictures of landscapes, seascapes, flowers and garden scenes, influenced by the Shropshire, Wales border near Oswestry where she lives with her husband and family.

Alongside books on machine embroidery Alison offers a range of textile courses from her studio in the UK. Alison works on commission and has experience exhibiting and teaching regularly in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
